I've started putting some thought into the best method of stopping underage drinking, this is likely to be showing the effects of underage drinking, however this in not the case for every teenager as some effects will not scare or shock them, for instance threatening a 14 year old with liver problems when he gets older will not really phase him, as he will think 'that won't happen for years, and if it does i can get a transplant.' This pattern of thought is likely to be the same for all the health related risks of drinking. It is for this reason that I believe the most effective way to stop underage drinking is to show the social effects it will have on the teenager's lifes, such as truancy from school and poor grades, I can then show the knock on effect of this, such as unemployment when the teenager grows up. I also think it will be easy to show the social effects of underage drinking rather than the health risks, as it would be very difficult to film a sick teenager, or to get a teenager to act sick. This decision to show effects on the teenager's personal life gives me a broad outline of my movie, it'll probably be filmed in a variety of places, a home, to show the effect of underage drinking on the family, a school, to show the underage teenager slowly drifting away from school work and finally on the streets, to show the actual act of underage drinking.
This is only a very small step of the planning process and there is still a lot for me to do, such as storyboards, more importantly however is finding actors and actresses that will be able to uphold the narrative of 14 year olds drinking.
